My menopausal brain and fat

So, are they (http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE56F5I820090716) saying that I have a fat brain?
Great. Not only do I have to worry about my expanding waistline but now I will be obsessed about losing formerly functioning brain cells as they turn to fat.
Is there any hope? Am I destined to be a female Jabba the Hutt with fat for brains?

Interesting article... I hope I don't become Jabba the Hut either when I hit menopause... although he was one of my favorite characters :)

Hi Matty,

You made the front page of our Chicago Tribune today and it mentioned your blog.

At 65, I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to lose 20 lbs. that I gained over the past 10 years during menopause . I've always been active ( I'm a gardener and landscape designer ) and ate a healthy diet but no matter what I tried the scale wouldn't budge.

Recently I bought a book called 'Cracking the Fat-Loss Code ' by Wendy Chant. It's not a diet really, but a lifestyle change, as she stresses in the book . Although the first phase of the diet reduces carbs drastically, it is not a low-carb diet either.

To my amazement I lost 5 lbs. the first week and 5 the next. 10 lbs. of fat - this is not water weight that you'll gain back or muscle loss. I shrunk 2 sizes.

This lifestyle change requires discipline but I never felt hungry since you have to eat 5 meals a day. There are 4 cycles to follow, each different, in which your body is forced to burn fat and not carbs. Eating 5 small meals also revs up the metabolism.

You'll see a difference in 8 weeks, and, the good news is that if you cheat a day or two all you have to do is repeat four 'carb down ' days to keep your weight off.

You can google Wendy Chant or the book. She has a website as well.

I'm a blogger as well if you'd like to visit me at http:// www.sweethomeandgardenchicago.blogspot.com

I've enjoyed visiting your blog and reading your very interesting posts. Good luck.
